Women’s Health Therapy

Primary functions of Women’s Health rehab are to aid in supporting pelvic organs including the bladder, uterus, and rectum, to stabilize the pelvis and spine, to assist with sexual function and bladder control.  The goal of this type of therapy is to improve strength and function of pelvic floor muscles as well as decrease pain and dysfunction in these muscles. This treatment includes assessment of lumbar spine, core, hips, gait and posture as the pelvic floor does not work on its’ own. Patients will learn to contract and relax pelvic floor muscles as it is relative to other muscles. They will also learn breathing and timing techniques that make the exercises more effective. These are given to aid in stretching tight muscles, strengthening weak muscles and improve flexibility. During each appointment, patients are taught more about their pelvic anatomy and how different elements work alone and together. They also learn how hygiene and habits may affect their symptoms. This therapy is aimed to help both in clinic as well as give you the tools and knowledge to complete at home work to aid in recovery and improvements in quality of life.
