Apple Therapy Downtown Manchester is proud to announce Gwen as our patient of the month!
In June 2024, Gwen had a fall that would result in a long road to recovery. She was immediately seen for vascular repair and that was when Gwen first came to Apple.
She was non-weightbearing and would be until the next surgery to repair the LCL and meniscus. She made great gains and was cleared for a second surgery September 2024 without any issues. She would remain non-weight bearing until the next surgery which was scheduled for November 2024. She had planned to return after that surgery, but unfortunately after undergoing PCL surgery, she had developed instabilities in LCL and had to undergo 2 more surgeries resulting in 5 total surgeries within a year. Gwen had to leave independence in this time as she had a dog and 2 story living.
Starting February 2025 was the real start to her recovery. She completed months of therapy and after 8+ months of being in a wheelchair and 5 surgeries, she went from living in her grandparents’ home with her dog, to returning home, walking, and caring for her dog, getting up and down off the floor and a lot more confidence in her ability to do functional tasks.
As of now, Gwen is able to complete all activities of daily living and is ready to take on more advanced hobbies including outdoor nature walking, beach walking and more. Gwen has made excellent progress in getting back to her normal self!
