What is Fascia?

Fascia is the connective tissue system that runs through the entire body providing a 3 dimensional web of flexible support that surrounds and interpenetrates every bone, muscle, nerve, lymph vessel, the skin, brain and body organs. When fascia becomes injured from trauma, disease, or chronic stress it tightens and creates a myofascial restriction. Over time these restrictions pull on the entire Fascial system creating tension, pressure, malalignment and can even cause symptoms in other areas of the body, including pain, tingling, burning, restricted motion and fatigue.

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial release is a hands on technique applied directly on the skin without creams or oils. The MFR therapist will use gentle sustained compression or pulling techniques to allow the fascial system to soften and lengthen and help to restore the fascial system to its natural mobile state. Myofascial release is a Whole Body approach with the goal of freeing up the restricted fascial system and returning the patient to a pain free active lifestyle.

Recent patient testimonial from one of our Amherst Apple patients….

“I’ve had back issues due to a car accident 23 years ago. X-rays, MRI’s etc show nothing. My new PCP suggested MFR sessions. After a couple weeks of sessions of MFR with Laura, I walked away being able to move better with the tension and pain not as exaggerated as it was before. I’m a much happier person with more energy now!” – Bobby R
